Binnacle nightmare

What should have taken me 10 min to remove and reinstall 6 screws turned into a 3 day wait, drilling and tapping as well as dremeling the new cover.
In retrospect, I should have just ordered the new 704 sticker and save me the frustration! That being said I love the new handle and cover, just glad it worked out.75357968-3A8E-4356-9F26-5AC3C4A787F1.thumb.jpeg.1c18370fd3c8cc84ada3a00baf29e759.jpeg72A1F22D-1C8A-4998-868A-484EF9FD898B.thumb.jpeg.8953998265aa7fd057904046fa14bada.jpegC649206E-3B65-4996-8D9F-1B0D98A9D10E.thumb.jpeg.80e920c0aea4e0cacd87d4a011e516e2.jpegscrew heads broke off on both, had to drill them out. Boats.net and Amazon. What I do is look up exploded view for 704 remote, get the part numbers then google them and see if Amazon has them.  Originally the first cover I ordered was gray but I wanted black. So I re ordered it in black and gave the gray one to my buddy who has a gray binnacle.

if that part number has a b0-00 at the end, the cover is gray, black ends in 00-00.

I've had issues with corrosion with the screws that are under the cover.. if you are looking to do a changeout, first see if you can get the four smaller screws (black) to remove the cover.. they may not come out easily and if this is the case add some penetrating oil and wait a while to try again. If these first four screws come out, add penetrating oil to all stainless screws that are viewable under the cover ( that will need to be removed when you do a changeout) and add some no seize to those four black screws as well. I had removed the main four screws holding the unit to the console.  Then added penetrating oil to the screws that were inside the console on the sides as well. I believe this helped when I finally had to change out the handle/trim switch.
