FunFlatsFishing
Can anyone explain how adding rake to a prop actually creates bow lift and how stern lift is created by reducing rake? My brother is adding a whale tail to his boat which I suggested he try to switch out his prop instead. He doesn't believe that props can contribute to bow or stern lift even though studies and experience show otherwise.
Moderator
I can't tell you how to build a watch, but I can tell the time ! Most handling issues can be managed by selecting the correct prop. If you want to re-work your prop, a competent prop shop can modify it to accomplish some benefit. Rake is but one factor. The whale tails can improve handling on some boats, but performance can be affected M-1.
linesider 159
In my experience, whale tails bring the bow down at lower speeds. At wot trimmed out they aren't in the water. A prop can and will make a difference on bow and stern lift. I ran a yamaha 25 on my boat and nearly blew over into a 20 mph wind at high speed. It had tons of bow lift and was very loose. Took a 4 blade bravo and ran into that wind and it was locked in
