Heading to Gulf and East Coast of Florida. Anyone have any insights? dc
fin-addict
There was a report and videos about it the other night on 60 minutes I think. It showed the massive mass of it. Concerns about the cost of clean up, the stench, beach going visitors and recreation and commercial fishing. Said nothing about the gulf except the red tide bloom. jh141
This is simply Sargassum. There has been an increase on and off for a decade or so they say. I just love the news media, They call life growing Sargassum a weed blob. This is actually a macroalgae. Cristopher Columbus wrote about it and how large it was back then when he first crossed the Atlantic. This is a bummer for the crews and city budgets that already clean the beaches everyday, BUT for fisherman, this is Great. The Sargassum patches are the estuary's of the ocean. Like everything else, some years there is a lot, some years not. Should translate into some Great fishing now and going forward. How much we see will all depend on the currents.
