DaveC
I have some exposed aluminum on my poling platform stanchions, the powder coating has come off and I can see corrosion is working its way around the rest. I am planning on some gel work so... I can't seem to get to the inside transom to the thru-bolts? Ideas? Thank you in advance for any help
slyshon
Should not be through bolted, machine screws tapped into metal backing plates. Skip
DaveC
Thanks Skip... I wasn't certain, I knew the backing plates were in place but. Thanks Man!
bdsnook
Be gentle removing the old bolts....work them out a thread...then run them back in...keep doing that till you feel the threads free up a little or you will twist off them 1/4" screws..pretty easy....then you have a mess....just say'n
flyfishinglife
I had the same issue on my 01 HPX T poling platform. Those screws can be very tight, or frozen. I used a manual impact driver to loosen them without stripping the heads. You can get one at most hardware or auto stores. I wouldn't try it without that tool. DaveC
Great advice on turning those bolts out, I'm going to work on that today so... Thanks!

DaveC
Thanks again for the good info, and the advice on the impact wrench was great. I bought a 12VDC Lithium one at K-Mart cheap, charged it while I was running up to the boat. Used my screw driver and a hammer to tap the screw heads a few times then used the impact, a touch tight then reverse and all the screws backed out perfectly... One thing that I did also notice was the lack of bedding at the screw and bolt locations.
