need to replace the stay spring hinge on anchor locker on 2015 Pathfinder 22 TRS

Has anyone replaced the stay spring hinge that keeps the lid open for the anchor locker on a 22 pathfinder?  My spring is old and shot.  I would love to hear some information on where to purchase a replacement.  Do I just need to get a stainless steel spring of the same size and replace the spring, or is there more to it?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

It's doubtful that you could find the same size S/S spring with the same configuration on the ends. Google spring assist for boat hatches.

I found a spring that fits my boat.  I had someone tell me to spin the spring a 0.5 or full revolution before you install it.  I was told this will help it be stiffer when you have the latch open.  Is there any truth to this?
