Swim Platform Handle Hardware Loose/Bilge Access

Time Flies

Recommended Posts

The horizontal grab bar mounted to the transom on my 2023 Pathfinder 2200 TRS is loose. Luckily it is the side of the handle closest to the motor/bilge access but still seems to be inaccessible with live well and sponson shape. No exposed fasteners so a zip toggle is not an option. Any experience with a fix for this?

Thanks All.

I am just outside of the 1 year warranty and not the original owner. I did however call the Dealer. They confirmed what some others on the Pathfinder Owner's Forum had suggested: Cutting a Hole in the Release Well for Access.

4" Pie Plate seems to be the way to go. I will likely go that route. It will be nice to have this for future access and inspection. When looking (phone camera video used as a bore scope) I did see some trapped water in the corner of the sponson i would like to keep an eye on.

Follow Up:

This weekend, with much hesitancy, I cored a 4.5” hole in the release well to install the 4” access plate. It hasn’t been water tested but installation was an overall success. I aimed for the middle of the release well to give me future access to swim ladder and trim tab hardware. I can now, with my phone, take a picture of the standing water area in the sponson.

The swim handle only had one nylon nut as expected. The other one was lying on the bottom of the boat. Reinstalled with sealant, new hardware and added fender washers.

Water trapped in the sponson area appears to be lower than the pass-through hole in the stringer so it can’t get to the bilge. I will now be able to take a quick glimpse or photo after the next trip.

Excellent job, the drill hole looks professional!

This is definitely Capt. Dino/ Capt. Dewalt approved 😁

well done......my only suggestion is I would have drilled out a 6" :)

If you use some DAP window sealant. - clear, it should seal it up enough to be water tight, but, not enough that you can't get the pie hole off.

I'd do this, use it then check the water in the sponson.
