DaveC
Okay, I have recently purchased a 17 MA, great little boat but I would like some advice on ridding the boat of mold...? I have it in the areas below deck aft around the pumps and in the area stbd aft stern area around the battery compartment. I just recently noticed that it has creeped up in an area on the deck as well, that dark stuff... ! Hate it, so... What do you all use, I need some advice because I am getting ready for paint so? I am thinking of Spray Nine to start... Thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!
fin-addict
bleach in a spray bottle for hard to reach places and pour into bilge, I like regular mildew cleaner myself. let sit and hose off. I also pour some in anchor locker and let run to the stern to cover entire bilge area.
Headhunter
Try Mold Armour from either Home Depot or Lowes. It comes in a bright green spray bottle. They have a cleaner and a blocker. I have used it for the last yer or so and it's amazing. Spray on. let sit wipe off. Great stuff.
jason p
What Headhunter said, the stuff is the bomb. Also, If you pour some bleach in the bilge with a 20lb bag of ice and go for a drive (boat on the trailer, not in the water) it will clean the entire bilge pretty well. The ice acts like an aggregate as it melts fairly quick and runs fore and aft when starting and stopping. Disconnect your battery so you don't run the bilge pump while your going down the road. conocean
Good idea, Jason!
triplec
A tip I have found is to use liquid pool chlorine. It is 10% vs the household 3% stuff. It is potent and you need to be well vented but it will knock out some mold.
DaveC
Great suggestions everyone, I am going to test and move ahead. Thanks for the feedback! Jason, I'm liking the ice idea...
flatwater
The ice and bleach method worked great for me. Drove around for a few miles and then let it sit for 30 min then drove around and flushed with fresh water when done. It looked great afterwards! plainsman5
I have had great success using Tilex with bleach. I just spray it in the bilge, wait 10mins and spray it off. It cleans the mold and mildew very well!
