gamecocks2001
I currently have a tiller model trolling motor with the RTA-19 quick relaease. I want to upgrade to the ipilot, but don't want to drill more holes in my deck. Anyone ever modified the RTA-19 to work with the ipilots?
linesider 159
Yes. 2 buddies boats are rigged where they can use both interchangeably. They had it custom done by a friend though

jason p
I recently tried to do this but couldn't make it work due to the placement of my RTA-19. The iPilot pivots at the base where the tiller models swing forward/down quite a bit. The machining is a little tricky because the block is tapered about 15 degrees but can be done. I did a dry run out of wood but the mount that attaches to the motor ended up being 22" long and flexed quite a bit.
linesider 159
Couldn't get a good photo tonight. Basically what they did is use the hand control base mounted to the boat, obviously a hand control fits just fine on that. Then for the wireless he used the hand control mount (part not attached to boat) and mounted a metal plate between it and the trolling motor with countersunk bolts. I wish I was able to take a good photo but it was dark. He has built around 4 or 5 of them for some buddies
