JACKIII Posted October 19, 2016 Report Posted October 19, 2016 just purchased a 1980 bonefisher. it needs a complete rebuild that I will start this winter. the boat currently has a 2stroke 90 on it. I would like to go bigger. anyone ever hang a f150 on this boat? thanks, Jack
80 bonefisher Posted October 19, 2016 Report Posted October 19, 2016 Not a F150 but we put an E-tec 135H.O. on ours. The 135 is just about the same weight as a 150 E-tec. You can see our build on this site. Same year boat.
JACKIII Posted October 20, 2016 Author Report Posted October 20, 2016 if the weights were the same why did you not go with the 150?
80 bonefisher Posted October 20, 2016 Report Posted October 20, 2016 Price was cheaper and the 135 puts out 148 at the prop. Plenty of power. Boat tops out about 52.
Mark_H Posted November 17, 2016 Report Posted November 17, 2016 I have my father's 77 Bonefisher I drove down from Texas and picked up at the factory new. He hung a 115 Johnson at the time. Thing was quick and fast enough I wouldn't want my kids to drive it. It feels/felt like you do something silly with the wheel at speed or catch a wave wrong and you might be upside down in the air wondering what direction the boat is headed relative to your eventual landing spot. Having said that I did stupid things with it as a teenager and lived. I had the hull squared away a couple of years back before life intervened. If I have to replace that 115 and I'm unconcerned with speed and want to feel comfortable with my kids taking it what motor would you guys suggest?
80 bonefisher Posted November 23, 2016 Report Posted November 23, 2016 I would stay with a 90hp just for the weight difference. Our 135 is fun and a little scary at times but we need to run with the trim tabs down a bit to stop the porposing caused by the weight of the engine.
