Donh
Out of Jupiter Inlet Wednesday morning. The worse conditions I've ever seen short of a hurricane. Two guys from Okeechobee in a 21 ft Mako. Got totally flipped. Major rescue effort. Neither one survived.

Nag Juice
Preventable and tragic. I've participated in efforts like this before. In this situation, more than likely most assets were unable to get on scene due to the environmental conditions. I know there isn't a CG asset in Florida that rated for surf. Worst part about looking at those pictures is knowing the desicion to transit the bar cost their lives and those are their last moments on earth. Donh
No one hesitated. Two life guards even went out there on a Wave Runner. There was one helicopter, the sherriff's boat from Jupiter, the big four engine boat from Palm Beach Inlet, and as I recall a third boat which might have been an open fisherman type or FWC. Hearsay is even a life guard tried to swim from shore but can't validate that. I would guess they were in the water maybe 30 minutes, a little more. The effort was commendable. dh

Donh
A friend of mine, Jerry White, is at the inlet just about every morning taking pictures of the sunrise. He took the pictures. dh

whichwaysup
Its a good reminder for anyone who isn't familiar with waters, or conditions. If you aren't sure, DON'T GO. Feel badly for the two guys, I hope they had their affairs in order, but mostly for the folks they left behind.
