a375459
2002 22 PF. The some of the screws around the bottom of the console appear to be rusted on the inside. Causing rust stains on the deck of my boat. Is there a good place to source new hardware to replace these screws? Thanks
linesider 159
Pull one out and take it to west marine or a high quality fastener place near you. Make sure you get stainless and dont mix metals
DonV
It may not be the screws, if they really are SS. If the holes were drilled with a drill bit that had been used in mild steel you will get rust from the minute shavings that will rust and run down the gel coat. If the screws are not SS shame on whoever put them in, I'm pretty sure it was probably not the builder (MBG).
a375459
Screws are original. Not sure if it's the screws themselves or something inside the console. Will have to take a closer look. Just assumed it was the screws themselves
Bamaskeet
Bar keepers Friend will usually take the rust stains off. Ospho will also work.
SCFD rtrd.
Toilet bowl cleaner will remove the rust stains (Snow Bowl), rinse well and let the area dry. Bed new S/S screws with 4200. The 4200 will keep water from entering between the screws and the fiberglass. You can buy Brillion tips for your screw gun from Sears. Those tips will not leave the minute metal particles that contribute to rust.
RodWorks
Ya, I would take the rust stains off first and wait and see if it continues to be a problem. A lot of stainless will rust for a little while and then never again.
