flatsfisher772
So for the longest time my bilge has been getting so much water in it each trip. Well I believe I narrowed it down to the live well. Specifically where the cap (underside of the deck) sits on top of the live well doesn't seem to be sealed much at all. When the live well is full and constantly running I believe it is pouring over the top and into my bilge. What would be the best product to seal that tightly that will not deteriorate in the water and also won't cause any issues with killing bait in the livewell? 5200? 4200? Something else? Thanks in advance
LenC
Be sure to fill it with water before you seal it. If you don't, the sealant will probably pull apart with the weight of a full tank of water. Probably best to use a flexible marine sealant - - not as strong as 5200, but flexible. Wanaflatsfish
I had the same problem on my Pathfinder...used 2 tubes (large) of 5200 on a hand gun....very ugly to do the work....you need to have lots of rags ready with acetone to clean it all up..the stuff is horrible when dripping upside down to fill the cracks.... Wear gloves and long sleeve shirt.....good luck. dc
CG RYAN
My boat does the same thing. I plan to use 4200. Good tip about filling it up with water, I will try it. I have been using my other livewell because I am not looking forward to it.
fin-addict
also suggest cutting the pipe just a bit to lower the water level in the tank. just an idea guys.fin
harbday
i have this same problem on my 1806v. my livewell is in the center console seat and the console has delaminated from the plastic livewell tub that was glassed in. There is now about a 1" gap in some places so I wont be able to just use sealant. I thought about expanding foam but my mechanic told me i'd be much better off getting it reglassed. That would entail taking off the console from the boat and flipping it upside down which sounds very time consuming and very expensive. anyone else have a similar experience with a gap thats too big for just sealant? JEM
The most "permanent" fix would be removing the console. If I used that live well, I would do it the "right" way the first time. Many times with boats, the most expensive way turns out the least expensive in the long run.
