Pricing

I am considering a 2008 2200 Tournament with a F-250 with 1100 hrs.  The asking price is $34,900.  It seems high to me, but I don't really have a pulse of the market lately.  Here are the list of options.

Yamaha 250 4 Stroke
Lowrance HDS 12 GPS/Fishfinder combo
Lowrance Audio hub
Lowrance I-Pod integration
Lowrance chirp HD transducer
Lowrance side scan
Yamaha command link gauges connect to Lowrance
New livewell pumps in 2014
New upholstery in 2014
Power pole Pro Series II 8'
JL Audio sound system w/ 4 Speakers
Minn Kota I-Pilot 80"

Anyone have an opinion on this?

Without a trailer I think the price is on the higher side. I know which boat you are referring to and it does look nice. I think if you aren't in a rush you could find a better deal. I'll sell you my 2400te with 350hrs for 8k more with a trailer. Keep checking and you will find a deal, just have to be patient.

I recently bought same year boat, motor, and trailer for 29k.

The only differences are no PP, and original Garmin 3210. Mine had 900 hrs on engine. Paid the price due to the condition (excellent) and central NC freshwater useage. After purchase, I had a 1000hr motor inspect, and lots of little things fixed due to my anal attitude for the boat to be perfect. Most owners would have used as is. About $2000 all in. I considered this establishing a base line b/c I will keep for a long while.

Only problem was the trailer. I knew the trailer axels were sketchey, but I thought it would get from NC to west central Fl Gulf coast. It did, but one bearing totally failed about one block later, the next day. I getting a lift so got those fixed and will use 'till lift installation.

Make sure purchase is contingent on your personal inspection ( fill and drain livewells, try wash down, test ride, etc.) and compression check and computer download by a Yamaha mechanic. Other than that, everything is your personal emotional feeling and negotiating skills.

Lastly, don't forget about sales taxes in your state!

Show the owner this and offer 28k and see what happens. CG Ryan is correct. Be patient and you will get a deal.

Good luck!!!!

Additionally, I also discovered that PF prices OUTSIDE of Florida seem to be less. I found deals in NC, of course, and LA, TX an SC. Don't know why, but I was offered $6K more than I paid when the boat was in its new home. I'll never know if the guy was serious, but it sure made me feel good about my purchase.

I, too, was scared of the 1000 hrs on the PF I recently purchased. Thinking about it, I talked to two Yamaha master techs at two different dealerships. Both said about the same thing..... it's better to buy a motor with 50 to 100 hours per year over its life, than one that has 10-30 hours per year. At some point in it life, it probably sat unused for too long. Fuel tank problems and electrical glitches are a sure indicator of a lightly used F250. Additionally, stay away from carberator motors if lightly used.

Before I handed a check to buy the boat, I had a machanic pull the codes ( one at 20 hrs), a compression check (all at 185 lbs) and a test recommended by a USCG guy where the cylinder at the compression stroke is pressurized, and then listen for blow by at the exhaust header from the exhaust valves or a max 3% pressure loss if using gauges. (Passed). Also known as a leak down test.

I talked to a USGG MK senior chief. (machinery specialist). He told me that they have a more aggressive program for their F250s than the Yamaha manuals recommend, and regularly get 5000 hours on motors at their small boat stations.

After purchase, I decided to do a complete 1000 hour service by a Yamaha master tech as a baseline. Complete, except for the valve to valve lifter gap check/ adjustment. All said they have never had to reset the clearance on a single motor, always found in spec. I took that chance and time will tell.

I didn't shy away from a 1000 motor and I think I got some sound advice from individuals who make their livings depending on and working these motors.

I hope I'm right and we will see. So far, it runs like a Swiss watch, and no problems what so ever. ( I've put about 50 hours on it)

Someone else told me if you want bulletproof and a warranty, buy a new motor. I can't afford that.

Anyone have an opinion on this?

34,900 would be high in South Georgia without a trailer.....but with a good dual axle trailer...that boat / motor / trailer combo would still be around 30 to 32 here. Provided of course everything checked out on it. As for:  the hours on F250 , I sold my 2400v PF to a friend several years ago with a F250 and it now has 1900 hours on it and runs strong...the key is keeping them maintained. My current PF is a 2200xl with a F150 and I sure wish it had a F250 on it !!  Good luck on your hunt for " the boat " .

Was that on Boat Trader?

That was in the for sale adds on Here. Someone had posted it as a warning that the dealer had misled them on the year. It was a 2011. Price Seemed in line TO ME. I had just picked one up, so I was in tune with pricing. Had I been in the market I would have been getting that number. I didn't want to bash what may be an over priced boat. I never want to devalue a product publicly if I own one. If you want to PM me I would let you know what I just picked up my 2014 TE for . Good luck in your search.
