all wet
In need of some new fishing pliers and took a trip to the new Bass Pro Shop in town. Everything is made in China which I try to avoid if possible. Started surfing around on-line and found a pair of Hansom Tackle pliers, 8" ones with either leather or nylon sheath for $70 bucks. hansomtackle.com Has anybody tried these, or have any other made in USA pliers you recommend? tarpon41
Hey, I'm always looking for another pair to replace my existing pair but to be honest with you everything I find out there has way too many gadgets on it for what I need and usually I find too bulky and short. I use and have been using for the last five years a pair of Mustad's 8 inch pliers which are narrow enough to get deep inside the mouths of the fish and also have a cutting mechanism . Again my ego gets in the way and I try to always find a top name brand to replace but nothing I find seems to do the job like these pliers. Anyway that's just my two cents . hurricane
I have a pair of these below, but I found them for $100 at Strike Zone in Jax. Been very happy with them. I have the leather also also. http://m.tackledirect.com/donnmarplier1.html I gave up with the line cutters, on all pliers, i attached these boomerang cutters to the holster. The retractable cable is awesome and they cut braid like nothing else. http://m.basspro.com/Boomerang-Tool-The-Snip/product/1212190615201/?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions
jason p
I have a pair of the 6" Hansoms, they're good. I have the nylon sheath, i like it because you can swivel it horizontal when you sit so it's not digging into the seat or lifting your belt. all wet
I know what you mean about the line cutters, most of my previous low cost pliers get rust on the jaws, then the cutters can't close down enough to cut braid. I carry some Ohero scissors for braid. Jason, thanks for your thoughts on the Hansoms, I'm leaning towards them right now.
RodWorks
I hear you on giving up on the line cutters, but just FYI Donmar will replace the cutters for you on all their pliers for a small fee. Been sending my pair back for 15 years or so..

all wet
Accurate was the other one I was looking at, another made in USA company. Still under $100 too. Thanks
Drummer
I just love my DanMar CheckPoint pliers. They cut braid cleanly, have a great warranty, and are just great in every way. Not too expensive, either.
conocean
I purchased a pair of Booms Fishing X1's a few months ago for $20 and have had good luck thus far. However, I rarely use pliers on my boat. I mainly use Cuda 3" titanium micro scissors for rigging. They work really well and are highly corrosion resistant. radi_33125
Van Staal cost a lot, but you will never need another pair.
Redrum
My Van staal's are 13 years old and still work as new. I never use wire leader. Only cut braid and mono. One pair and done.

When you spend your hard earned money on a pair of Van Staals, you're less likely to leave them laying around and lose them. 5 years and still cut like new. all wet
Those Krocs don't look bad. Found their "deluxe" ones for $28.95 looks to have rubber grips. Not a bad loss even if you did happen to lose them. http://www.ebay.com/itm/KROK-7-Deluxe-Aluminum-Pliers-Straight-Jaw-Gunmetal-Carbide-Cutter-Sheath-APSTJ/231865108193?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3D34354899b7aa4d4d9d1ab0a65a6339e4%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D201707619651

No way id be able to keep a pair of pliers around for 13 years without losing them! lol Bout 80 days a year. You pay what they run and you won't lose them any more than you would a rod or reel ha! One will make sure that lanyard is clipped on prior to using of that I guarantee! I have the V stalls I bought in 2010. Ordered new parts now and again. I spend more than they cost on one rod reel combo and the pliers get used all day every day so to me the quality for something getting used is worth the layout up front. With that said I also don't lay them on the boat or loan them out lol I have a set of cheap ones for that.

polliwog
I will add Sargents to the possibility . They are US made, stainless and have 2 cutters, one for braid and one for cutting hooks. They are able to cut hooks as big as VMC 6x,so if you fish for big fish with big trebles they are the best. Price is $65 -70.If you ever get hooked by a big fish you will wish you had a way to cut that hook, I know unfortunately. They are very heavy duty. SCFD rtrd.
I like the looks of those Sargents Pliers, but I don't see a place to attach a tether. I keep a pair of heavy pliers in by boat just for cutting hooks because it's happened to me more than once. If I bought the Sargents, I could eliminate the emergency heavy pliers. Thanks for the tip.
