Fishtails
Considering a handheld gps. Curious as to what is being used and what to look for.
johnd
What will you use for? A back up for ditch bag is one use, to navigate new areas another.
SCFD rtrd.
I bought a handheld Garman from West Marine (on sale) for about $325. Don't remember the model number because I sold it after buying a Lowrance HDS 8. However, that little sucker was very accurate and easier to use than the Lowrance. If I anchored in the wrong location, an arrow would point to the correct location and tell me how many feet to move. It was dead-on the money every time. THE OUTLAW
Yup That's the best part . Now if they only had a weather radar app that did not need a signal , 🇺🇸☠
rubble
How does the Navionics app work on iphone without cell signal? I’m sure you’ve put it to the test in the glades. Def no signal out there.
SCFD rtrd.
Just guessing, but it would have to get it's signal from a satellite.
rubble
That would make sense. Didn’t realize that phones had the capability of communicating with Sats. Thought their positioning came from triangulation with cell towers. If regular cell phones do have the capability to communicate with Sats, one would think that there would be a way to use them for emergency communication when not in tower range. jim33042
I’ve used a Garmin 76csx, for years. I’ve added some topo maps for specific hunt areas as well. Worked in Alaska for moose and sheep and was used as a main device on a flats boat till I purchased large unit. With a 2.5 inch screen, it’s a bit tricky to run and watch at the same time, but it never failed me. Newer model is 78. Check Labor Day sale prices.
