RiMav18
Well the bay is loaded with river herring and they and bass are in one pond that I know for sure. There are holdover bass in that pond. Haven't seen any fresh ocean bass yet but soon. When the herring come the bass follow.

triplec
Ri Mav, Nice one! Bet there are not many in RI ! Did you re rig the rod locker latches? I have 96 with dual RL 18.5 but different latches. I like the look of these as mine are just locks not latches.
RiMav18
Yes I swapped the latches for locking but have honestly never locked them.

joey7848
It seems like everyone on this forum raves about these skiffs. They look great, but look a little big for a flats skiff. How would one of these compare to a Vantage VHP, BT Vengeance, or Action Craft 18 for instance in terms of draft and polability? I'm sure they eat the chop and run well, but I'm just uncertain of the fishability in shallow water? Thanks for the help all! I'm sure there's a link somewhere on this forum that talks about this...if you could point me there that'd be great!
whichwaysup
Joey, the Master Angler is the SUV of flats boats. For guys doing general inshore fishing, they are phenomenal. But, they are generalists, they aren't specialists. If you pole alot, get an HPX. If you need to run super shallow, look elsewhere. If you fish anywhere and everywhere, any tide and any condition because you fish when you can, not when you want to, you need an MA. And this MA is well equipped. I wish ee could get someone to put eyes on it. If it is as pretty as it appears in the pics, someone will get a gem.

Yeah what whichway said.....IMO there are a lot of "pretty" new boats out there that claim 8" this or 9" that, but I would really think hard about what and how you fish 80% of the time and buy the boat that drafts the most water for you to catch those fish. If you find yourself on the platform most of the time then a MA is not for you. However, if you're pushing on a pole 80% of the time you probably already know what boat you want...need....HPX 17 or 18! I would hire a guide who runs the boats you think you want....That's the easiest way to tell if it's what you want or not.
fsusteve
That pretty much nailed it, it does a lot of things very well, mostly not beat me up on long runs, it's not a technical poling skiff
Mitz
Yeah i mean i used hear 10 inches draft and think wow that's a lot for a "flats" boat. In reality, the 17/18 MA will draft 12-14inches depending how much fuel and if the well if full. Don't believe... get out of the boat and measure.... Ill take that draft any day over 7/9 inches and getting my face pounded in by chop and being limited to a poling stiff but to each his own. As the above mentioned, think hard about how "shallow" you are really going to get. I've owned both and now have a 25 contender bay and still get back to little rabbit key in florida bay and flats around that area at low tide. so unless you are technical poling, you are going the right route by looking at the MA's
joey7848
Thanks for all the replies...that's some really helpful perspective. The truth is I'm not on the pole all the time, but I am in the LA flats fishing redfish on the pole or trolling motor 95% of the time. I've had an AC 1720 before and there were times I felt like that skiff was too heavy for what I was trying to do and this feels similar to that, if not even beefier. I think I'll have to stick with the hunt for an HPX in my price range. Thanks for all the help though, fellas.
CAPTD305
Can captains backrest be added to this girl? Any idea on what it would cast shipping her to So. Florida?
RiMav18
I have never really looked into adding a back rest but I am sure it can be done. I have no idea on delivery cost to Florida, but to make the right deal I wouldn't be against delivering it myself. It's not a horrible drive.
