inshoreaddict
Hi I'm looking for and tips on fly set up for red fish. I have a tfm 8wt mangrove and cheeky MOJO. Just curious what everyone uses as far as lines leaders and flies.

jason p
I've been using Rio Redfish line forever (I got a deal on 3 or 4 spools of it) it stays pretty clean and floats well. I use PowerPro Hollow ace for backing and I keep the leaders simple. 4'-50 lb, 3'-30 lb, 2'-20 lb fluorocarbon tippet (These measurements are purely eye-balled, I usually end up with a 9'-10' leader)

jason p
These are all on 1/0 Gamakasu SC-15s and Gamakatsu #4 B-10S (they're the same sixe, I have no idea why sizes from the same manufacturer are all over the place, they're all like this though so know what you want before you order online) I have black variants of all these as well for muddier water. If there's a lot of snook around I usually start with the baitfish and a 12"-ish 30lb fluorocarbon bite tippet until I break one off and I may go to a 40lb tippet. As a rule though I always use the lightest tippet and smallest hooks possible.
Donh
If I live to be a 100 don't think I will ever understand hook size, especially between manufacturers. dh
Donh
This very simple fly has also been effective. Strip of black zonker with a Grand Estaz collor. When wet looks like a black worm. When cleaning red fish frequently find worms in their stomach. dh
