Garwad
Anyone running a HPX-T with a 50 four stroke yamaha out there? I am looking at one seriously and want to know you think this boat is under powered? Any info would help. Thanks
Bruce J
There was a guy in the Houston area that ran one for several years and seemed happy with it. It would definitely get you from Point A to B. Just guessing that you'd have a top speed of about 30, maybe.
polliwog
I was persuaded not to under power my Hewes 20LT with a 115HP Yamaha 4 stroke because I would find myself running at close to WOT to get the speed I wanted. This sounds the same with your option.
Donh
My 2000 HPX T had a 70 2 stroke and fully loaded would top out at about 30 mph, maybe a little more. Cruising 25-28. This might give you an idea. dh
Bill Blanton
An HPX-T with a 50 would be underpowered. My 2000 HPX-T came with a 70 2 -stroke, which I later replaced with a 60 4-stroke. Both moved it along pretty well. The newer boats are usually outfitted with a 70 4-stroke. I remember a two-boat trip when a friend fished with me in his HPX-T with a 50. He was always lagging behind when we motored from place to place and had trouble keeping up with me. I'm no speed freak, but I think I'd be unhappy with that combo.
