Lostsmenfive Posted August 10, 2017 Report Posted August 10, 2017 Repowered with a Mercury 2017 150hp four stroke. Want a four blade prop. Any one running the same engine, that can offer advice? Thanks All, Jeff
hurricane Posted August 10, 2017 Report Posted August 10, 2017 Gonna be tough to find someone with that same setup. Maybe NagJuice (Spencer) will let you know what prop he runs with a Yamaha 4s 150, might be close to the same. I have 150 Vmax 2s, and run a Powertech OFS 19 pitch 3 blade. Wondering why you're only interested in a 4 blade?
Nag Juice Posted August 10, 2017 Report Posted August 10, 2017 I'm running a Power Tech OFX4 17 pitch which I'm not crazy about. It leaves a lot of glass in the water and it's difficult to get it up on top. I trailed a Mercury Mirage 3 blade 19. I liked it bc it seemed to have more lift and the boat responded better. The performance bulletin calls for a Yamaha pro series 14.5x21. I haven't got my hands on one yet bc they're back ordered. Some might like the 4 blade, the hole shot is a little better but you lose top end. I'd rather have Top end.
wthree3 Posted August 11, 2017 Report Posted August 11, 2017 I run a Yamaha 21 Pro on a Yamaha F150. Have never tried anything else but can't imagine finding a better all around prop. Has a lot of bow lift which gets most of the glass out of the water making it very fast. Mines a bit worn now but still hits 55 when trimmed out. At cruise it runs about 500 rpm more than the speed (3500 rpm is 30 mph.) I would definitely buy another, unfortunately they aren't cheap and are hard to find used.
Nag Juice Posted August 11, 2017 Report Posted August 11, 2017 I think they're hard to find new as well. Marcus at Power Tech said the OFX3-19 would be a good fit as well.
lurem Posted August 12, 2017 Report Posted August 12, 2017 Not much help here either but I had a 2003 Maverick 18.5 Yamaha 150 HPDI and ran the Powertech PTC4R19. Had a top end of 52-53 mph @ WOT
Lostsmenfive Posted August 14, 2017 Author Report Posted August 14, 2017 Thanks all for the comments. The old motor was a 150 hp Mercury Saltwater series two stroke, and ran a four blade for better grip and hole shot. Loved it - ran in the mid fifties trimmed out. I believe it was a 19. Motors gone with prop. Thanks again. Jeff
capt. dan malzone Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 I have same boat, same motor. Run a powertec 4 blade 19"
triplec Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 Same boat but likely very diff engine as I have 2 stroke Yamaha 150 but the 4 blade PT 19 works well. Lost top end from 3 to 4 but crazy grip and lift.
Lostsmenfive Posted August 15, 2017 Author Report Posted August 15, 2017 Thanks Captain Dan. Great info. What speed and numbers are you getting with the four blade? Jeff
mblanar33 Posted May 19, 2018 Report Posted May 19, 2018 Anyone have any recommendations for a 175hp Yamaha on the 18MA with a jackplate. Not getting enough bow lift; not enough glass out of the water. Only getting 51-52mph
triplec Posted May 20, 2018 Report Posted May 20, 2018 Is it an an older HPDI 175 or 4 stroke? Not to derail but hoping to hear from some running a 175 SHO on an older MA hull myself...
mblanar33 Posted May 20, 2018 Report Posted May 20, 2018 It’s a 98 175 VMax on a 98 master angler. TripleC - are you having similar issues? What prop are you running now?
geeviam Posted May 20, 2018 Report Posted May 20, 2018 Anyone tried one of these 4-blades? Yamaha Ultima 4 (aka Turbo Ultima 4), 14.25" x 19p or 17p Mercury Trophy Plus, 13.75" x 19p Solas HR Titan-4, 14.13" x 19p Rubex HR-4, 14.13" x 19p
Tarpon1215 Posted May 20, 2018 Report Posted May 20, 2018 Contact Marcus from power tech props here on the forum under the handle funky monkey.

What prop are you running now? I have a 96 Pro V and currently running a 4 blade Power Tech PTC4R18PCL200 but just pulled it off and put on a Yamaha Turbo 14 1/2 x 19 3 blade. Used the 4 when the kids were on board and water sporting and for a hole shot but looking to see what the hull will do as I am considering re-powering. Thats what I was curious if anyone was running a fresh engine in the SHO. My numbers with the 4 blade on this hull are good but its not breaking 50mph for sure. I suspect the 19" three will but also considering a 21 Yamaha Pro. Not a speedy hull I guess and mines heavy with dual rod lockers.

Most people claim they run stiff as in the pitch # being under rated. My boat probably needs a 23p , but a Solas 21p might be what I need.

It was suggested I have it tuned to a 21 as its supposed to be a good one with low slip but not sure on that so looking for a 21" to try first. Maybe a Pro.
