Chuck59
Greetings All, I need some advice regarding my livewell pump. The housing broke at the hose fitting. Probably from age. I believe that the pump was original equipment. The cock valve failed also. I was able to temporarily fix the problem with rescue tape. I want to replace the entire assembly. Need guidance with this project. All instructions and comments are welcome. thanks
SCFD rtrd.
Usually the shut-off valve is separate from the thru-hull fitting and they are threaded together. If that's the case, just unthread and buy a new bronze shut-off valve. The pipe should be 3/4 inch. Then add a 90 degree elbow, then the strainer, then the pump. The elbow will allow the strainer and pump to lie horizontal and not vertical. Lying horizontal keeps the pump below the water line. Use "Boat-Life" white caulking to seal all threaded connections and seal the hose to the barbed fitting on the pump, and finish with a hose-clamp.
