East Coast Dave
Can I install a float switch on my bilge pump that has one built-in? The one on my " new to me" Pathfinder didn't come on with all the rain we had but works when you flip the switch. I know I could just replace the the whole pump but I was thinking maybe just the auto float may be bad and a separate float switch might be the way to go. Or should I just replace the whole thing with another one with the built in float switch? Thanks.
dcathey
I had one where the internal float went out and just swapped out pump into existing bracket. Easy peasy
SCFD rtrd.
I'm not sure how the internal float switch sends a signal to the pump motor. If it has wires, you could wire the external float switch to the existing bilge pump. But that means taking the pump out, doing the wiring, install the new float switch and reinstall the bilge pump. Sounds like you would be time and money ahead to just install a new bilge pump with an internal float switch.
Bamaskeet
I don't think you can easily by pass the float switch.

mulligan
I have a rule auto that the float stopped working and just added a new switch. Just don’t hook up the auto wire.
blewbyu
I put a Rule float switch in replacing the internal Rule 1100
LittleChief
The bilge pumps with built in floats tend to have issues. I would install a separate float switch and wire it directly to your battery and pump w/o a switch.
