Miss Jazzy
Running last weekend when all of the sudden the motor jumped in to what felt like neutral. Running in 8-10' of water so I knew I didn't hit anything. Had to call Sea Tow for the slow ride home. Trip to the mechanic and thought for sure a problem was in the gears and a rebuild would ensue. Well he broke it down to find a broken drive shaft! He said he's never seen one brake except on small motors when the shaft is the size of a pencil. After inspecting the shaft it looks to me it was bad when cast. The center is distorted. But it did last 14 years before it broke. Motor is a 200 Vmax HPDI. New lower unit is otw. hurricane
Had this happen to me once. It was on an 80's something Evinrude 90, I was in a little creek of East Cape canal out of Flamingo. It was not a fun time getting out of there and finding help to get back.
