mustang190
Has anyone used one? If so was there any affect on the boat? I'm thinking about getting a 6' one to put where the bow/keel scuffs on the bottom. Not going with the full length that it says for a 22' boat. nicecast
My boat came with one. It was fine for a few months then started to peel off. I spent the better part of half a day and lots of xylene getting the goo off. I nose up on sand/shell beaches all the time and my keel is fine. No keel more keel guards for me. My Maverick MA had one when I bought it, previous owner installed because he ran up on sand bars with his kids. I kept the boat three years and never had a single issue with it. In fact, it saved the keel several times with me in shallow water and also pulling up on some beach fronts. I'm not sure what type of adhesive was used, but there were no signs of peeling ever with it. I probably put 500 hours on the boat with no issues at all with the keel guard. mdemott
The older models had a tendency to peel. I heard that the company is using a different adhesive. Of course, prepping the surface is the key.
johnd
Mine came with..over last 10 years or so it started to peel off. I’ve taken it off now. Might reduce top speed, but I can see how it protects against sandbars and maybe oyster..if going slow or beaching.
