mknaron
Anyone have suggestions for installing a backrest on a Hewes 21 RF? I have an '04 model without the flip-up seat.
Mangroovin
I have an 03 RF21 without the tilt up seat as well. Had 3 Tempress seats done when I bought it. Driver seat is mounted just slightly forward of the other 2. Spin them around backwards when towing to keep em from flipping up. Called "low back" seats if I recall. Works fantastic! Mangroovin
Forgot to mention that the latch gets removed and the hole where it was is hidden under the driver seat mount. One of these clips at each end of the hatch lid are great for securing it shut.
linesider 159
I did these on my lake and bay. Made by Attwood and I also did the slider on them so I could slide them forward and back. These had built in suspension which I would actually recommend against. It acted too much like an ejection seat
J.N
I have the swivel seats similar to Mangroovin. They work great for running but they do get in the way when running from front to back while fighting fish. I want a flip up butt cushion, but the wife disagrees. The wide gunnels are where I do my running from front to back. Many of my catches require no running......lolol.

2fastlx
Im in the same boat. Mine is an '01 and I have been looking at getting a backrest for a while. What's that 300hp VMAX run like? I almost bought one that had a Hydro tec phase 3 kit and I was concerned it was a ticking time bomb.
2fastlx
Knock on wood it has been great. Prob have 6-700 hours on it now with no issues. I just run it easy, use good oil, and change the plugs and filters yearly. I would have passed on that one too since it had been modified.

Nauti
8 hours ago, Wanaflatsfish said: I have the same...from FishOn seats....they work well. dc Same here. Haven't had them get in the way...still plenty of room on the gunnels to get around them. Mine does have a flip-up seat and I find it way too low. It's much more comfortable with the swivel seats and you're up little higher.
Flatout Yankee
Hi Mknaron, Likely you've solved the backrest problem as I see your original was way back in March of last year. If not, I can send you what I idid to modify the Birdsall backrest mentioned in one of the posts above. I'm plenty happy with the unit on my '03, 21 Redfisher. jg
