lotsofknots Posted May 12, 2018 Report Posted May 12, 2018 Anyone running Continental trailer with 2-axles w/R16 rims/tires under their 296 Cobia ? What model trailer? Upgrades- Front V-Bow catcher?, SS hubs? Comments? Need a trailer for 2016 Cobia 296 and getting mixed feedback from dealers on trailer/axle configurations. Most 296 Cobias have 3-axle w/R15 tires from what I see but considering the idea of 2-axle w/R16 tires with the same load rating (10,500 lbs ) (Our 2400 TRS had an Amera Trail trailer so we are very familiar with the product & quality )
Capt. Troy Posted May 12, 2018 Report Posted May 12, 2018 Call Amera trail and they will tell you what you need or can use.
JEM Posted May 12, 2018 Report Posted May 12, 2018 All I would add is if you do a lot of trailering with a boat of that size, DON’T scrimp on the trailer! Second Capt. Troy’s suggestion.
DonV Posted May 12, 2018 Report Posted May 12, 2018 If you shop for the Continental go only with the "CA" model. Where you live in central Florida? https://www.continentaltrailers.com/aluminum-ca.htm
lotsofknots Posted May 12, 2018 Author Report Posted May 12, 2018 Thx for the feedback- Amera Trail has 4-6+ week leadtime and won't commit to date. Can get from others in 2-4 of similar quality . Don V- thx I have all specs. from them and an quoting 2 and 3 axle (leaning toward the heavy duty 3 axle, R15)
justfish Posted May 12, 2018 Report Posted May 12, 2018 I would also call Owens and Sons. They are beasts of trailers
fin-addict Posted May 12, 2018 Report Posted May 12, 2018 have had several cont. trailers. like them very much and save lots of $$$$$$$
DonV Posted May 12, 2018 Report Posted May 12, 2018 Good luck!! I personally have had my last three trailers, my neighbor just had one built a month ago, plus many other friends have had Peterson Trailers build theirs. He only does them with the top of the line products, torsion axles, all SS hardware and bolts, aluminum bunks, double bend frame, etc. He does not offer "entry level" trailers. He's over in the Tampa/Brandon area.
lotsofknots Posted May 25, 2018 Author Report Posted May 25, 2018 Thx all for all the feedback, comments and ideas. Ended up working a deal with Amera Trail and should have a new tri-axel in a couple of weeks! Safe boating to all and tight lines!
