Lap it Up
Now this is the real industry shake up. It has Yamaha scrambling big time. Power to weight ratio is very important. With all the new industry leading composites and hull designs why would you choose a 900lb outboard??
JEM
It sounds like they might have Yamaha on the run, to me! A 300 HP V-8, 20" shaft, weighing in at 505 lbs! WOW! I wonder if any bass boats are rated for a 300?
JT Quinta
300 ponies would look good on my 21MA!
MuddyBottomBluz
That has to be dry weight, the Evinrude e-tec 300 is 539 pounds so after all the fluids they would probably weigh in the same. If Merc can pull off that power to weight ratio in a 4 stroke and it ends up having good reliability, everyone better look out. Not to mention pricing! J.N
I have a price sheet that shows the pro xs 250 1600 less than the yamaha 250 sho. I don't know if I can fit that v8 under my poling platform though?

Carolinadrifter
Not a fan of the look of those motors. It reminds me of the e tec g2. Ugly

palmetto1
I thought ProXS were 2 strokes must have changed or maybe that was the Optimax Pro XS.

Mercury will offer that motor with a bunch of different configurations. The lightest model will be the 20" mid with cable throttle and shift. F1sh0n
Really nice to see America innovating once again. T he Verado has been a great engine, however for heavy boats you cannot beat displacement.

Hopefully my old hpdi keeps running until the new mercury's have been proven. After a family member has had some issues with his newer yamaha 300's I'm thinking hard about a new Merc. Low hour motors shouldn't have heavy carbon buildup that causes low compression and rusted out hardware.
MuddyBottomBluz
Take a look at this for the new Merc's! https://www.boatingmag.com/new-mercury-marine-verado-fourstroke-and-pro-xs-outboards-v-6-and-v-8-models-from-175-300hp Color options! My brother in law (Master Mechanic for every company that owned Evinrude Johnson since the late 70's and still to this day) told me that the color of outboards was sacred! Easily identifiable just by color back in the day, and manufacturers did not tread there, welcome to the future!
BCPD199
That 300 with the 20" shaft would be perfect on the 2300 HPS! Plus you can get DTS!
