mo2982
The rubber boot cover for my ignition switch has started to deteriorate and has melted a bit. I haven't been able to find a replacement piece for it yet... Anyone else have this issue or know where to get one? Thanks--
wthree3
They tend to melt once in a while. Acetone will clean up the goo. Available at many place including Amazon, boats.net, eBay, etc....here at Sim yamaha. https://www.simyamaha.com/Yamaha_O_M_Key_Rubber_Cap_p/6k1-82532-00-00.htm

blewbyu
How is the new boot secured to the switch so it doesn’t come off? whats the secret? Mine keeps pulling off when removing the key.
JEM
I replaced mine about a year ago. From what I remember, it just sort of snaps on around the base of the switch.

wthree3
Snaps over a lip on the switch... similar to how a plastic lid fits on a paper soda cup.
Wanaflatsfish
DO NOT USE WD 40 TO LUBRICATE.... this is what will eat away the plastic boot..... Only use a silicon based lubricant such as INOX....or Yamaha product that uses silicon. dc
reelhooked
In addition to WD 40, sun tan lotion will also attack the plastic covers. Especially the spray on sun tan lotion seem to aggressively attack the plastic cover. I found out the hard way, that there is 2 sizes of covers, they are close in size but not interchangeable. The good news they are only a few $'s each.
polliwog
Besides what has been listed as a problem,so is insect repellent, ruined several reel handles that had to be replaced. They got squeechy and soft. Now I know what not to use.
