VsteveV
Finally my TM batteries are going, so I'm looking around for replacements. Anyone using 24v LI batteries? That weight difference is huge!!!
DonV
From what I remember seeing them at the Miami Boat show so is the price difference!
linesider 159
I have 2 lithium pro 36 volt batteries. The 2 main reasons to go lithium are to speed and storage space. Had 2 go bad and get replaced under warranty. I like them, but for the price you could just buy a bigger motor 😄
VsteveV
I'm eexpecting to spend over a grand for them but if they save me that much weight and will last longer I dont mind taking the plunge. Any reccomendations of brand?
VsteveV
Lithium's have not seemed to catch on yet in mainstream applications. With that said I need to make a decision. I've heard those Sam's Club batteries are pretty good... Thoughts?
DonV
Yeah the Sam's AGMs are very well thought of. This subject comes up every two months or so and the Sams AGMs are quite popular and they're made by one of the big battery companies and just branded Duracell. hurricane
What boat do you have? I understand weight savings if you have a light weight poling skiff, but anything else I don't think you'll notice the savings. Those Sam's AGM's are the best deal going. D-linesider
Sams AGM batteries are labeled as Duracell but are made by Deka. Deka is typically regarded as a top notch battery. The local shop I have work on my boat spoke to the rep and was told there is literally no difference between the high dollar Deka lableld AGM batteries and the Duracell labeled AGM batteries sold at Sams. They are by far the best bang for your buck! as for the lithium batteries I have no experience but have several friends who are tournament bass anglers. The bass guys are all running the lithium’s from what I hear.
linesider 159
I've used several of the Duracells with great success, although I haven't kept a boat longer than a year and a half so cant really give a longevity test. I can say in the 1.5 years I've had lithiums 2 failed, so not exactly the best track record.
jason p
I have a pair of Odyssey PC1500 34Ms that are 9 years old and still going. They’re pretty expensive but man these things will not die.

At a cost.
linesider 159
On an 18 redfisher I would want the heavy batteries up front since they sit a little stern heavy. Also assists with the porpoising
Drummer
I am so old school. El Cheapo trolling motor group 27 lead acid batteries from Advance Auto Parts. They last about 4-5 years and cost about $90 last time I looked. Heavy, yes. Electrolyte, yes. A bargain, yes. I am a sucker for old, proven technology I guess! I've had Deka AGM for trollers in the past, lasted about 5-6 years @ $200plus, Odyssey and Optima for starting/house that only made it about 2 years and just replaced my cheap Wally World trollers that have been in the boat since the beginning of 2014. Capt. Troy
4 years on the Sams Duracell. Heavy usage. Best bang for the buck. I have 7 of them.
George Seither
I'm in line with the old school and sealed lead acid, either Interstate, Napa or AutoZone had good service out of all during the years

SCFD rtrd.
Will a standard onboard charger work with Lithium batteries? Also heard they are prone to overheat and catch fire. Just saying!!!
