Mullet around N Captiva

Anyone know of a mullet hotspot to cast net some to use for tarpon , bottom fishing the passes? Are there any bait guys or shops that sell them like in the keys? I can run wherever to buy them and keep them in a baitring at the dock. We stay on North Captiva and head down July 13th

No bait guys like the east coast, wish there were. Not seen to many schools of mullet recently, spotty few here and there. Have seen lots of bait pods in the Boca area bait about 3”. CH also holding bait. Good luck, safe trip

Thanks fin, was hoping to find someone. It’s tough with 2 small kids to spend a bunch of time searching for bait instead of fishing. Do Pinfish traps work down there? Thought about putting one near safety harbor where we keep the boat

Pin fish traps work very well on the grassy flats but they tend to be raided by others. Have thought about using a few for years. Can give it a try, they do not cost much. Suggest not tying to a marked but mark on gps instead.

Jug Creek area has held white bait off and on. Pinfish have been there all along. As Fin said, mullet have been kind of scarce.

I imagine literally hundreds of thousands of mullet were killed in the environmental disaster last summer. I saw what looked like millions of dead ones in Ding Darling last August. Very disheartening. The stock will regenerate, but it might take a while.
