nicecast
Mine is fried. I hear mixed reviews on SEI in Tampa but at $895 and with three years warranty it's a decent option. Any other experiences or advice?
Bamaskeet
Another option is to call around to dealers to find a used one.
MuddyBottomBluz
Special tools are required for the disassembly & assembly of the lower units and they are not cheap so doing it yourself is not really an option. I believe that SEI are those Chinese units that they advertise in the magazines, stay away. Use a factory lower unit, those Chinese units use cheap metal and reduce structural webbing in critical areas. Have yours rebuilt by a reputable shop or find a good used one as stated. Know a guy that just scrapped a 200 HPDI that was blown. I would start checking the bone yards. You might get lucky. The SEI lowers have mixed reviews. Some good some not.I heard the warranty is pretty good and that it gets used a lot.
MuddyBottomBluz
Check the classifieds, 200 HPDI for parts.
nicecast
Thanks, guys. I'm checking and plan to steer clear of SEI. My brother had one on his Opti with no issues, but the reviews are really mixed. I like the idea of mine being rebuilt with OEM parts, or finding a used OEM. Lap it Up
I have a SEI on my 2.6L. No issues at all. My suggestion is run it for a few months and then install OEM driveshaft seals, prop shaft seal and water pump kit. All the rubber parts are non OEM. SouthernWake
What all needs to be rebuilt? Why not see if you can get it apart to rebuild before you buy a new one?

I took mine to the Boat Center - cost was about $600 or so if I remember....they also replaced the impellor when they had it off and it was about $150 more...but, the LU was about $600....it required a lot of labor due to problems with breaking it apart..... ALL OEM by a 5 start mechanic....never an issue in over 1 yr. dc
mulligan
I have had one rebuilt by Marine Rebuild Specialist. They use all OEM parts. Since they use those high $$ Yammi parts the cost to have it rebuilt was not much less, if any, then a new Yamaha lower. In my case the insurance paid for the rebuild but would not pay for a new one due to the age of the motor.
Limitless
I put an SEI on a 250 yamaha that I tore up some years ago and used it for about4 years before I sold the boat. I may have been lucky, I dont know. You might should get an estimate on a rebuild first. Another idea is to check with Matt Conrad "the motor man" he's on a number of forums and deals in used motors, based in Gainesville.
