whichwaysup
Hey all, my beloved 2011 F150 (4x4) needs new tires. Last set I put on were awful, tread ended up cupping and got loud as hell. She is a street and ramp vehicle so I dont need off road tires, but looming for something that is economical, long lasting, and relatively quiet. Any suggestions? Chief5130
I have always had good performance from MichelinI LTX Defended.
conocean
After years of spending extra money on Good Year Wranglers I finally made a change to Continental Terrain Contact A/T’s (not H/T’s) for my 2014 F150 4x4. My local mechanic recommended them. Ive put almost 10k miles on this set & I notice zero difference from the Good Years except that I saved $30/tire. whichwaysup
Currently I have Bridgestone Dueler AT - 285 70 R17. Were great for the first 20K miles or so, but then wow, did they get loud. Let me look at these two recommendations. I'll take any other recommendations as well. NCTribute
The Michelin and Continental tires mentioned are what I have used for the last 11 years. Continentals are a little more aggressive, the Michelins get slightly better gas mileage, both are very good tires. Have had terrible experiences with Goodyear, cupping, blown out sidewalls, hard to balance etc. Results may vary.
whichwaysup
dang, suckers got expensive since the last time I did this. Seems like last time I bought them the four tires barely broke $600. Now I'm over 1K. YEOUCH!
bernieNC
MICHELIN LTX M/S2 Have probably been one of the best set of tires I have had. Not cheap but you can spend more. 2008 F150 (4x4) Super Crew (not the little short 5.5' bed either)
Toeknee217
We have Continental sure contact lx on our expedition and it has been a pretty good tire. The expy is a 2wd and we haven't had any slippage issues pulling the contender out of the ramps here in Miami. They're more economically priced too. jh141
I ran the MICHELIN LTX M/S on my Dodge since the truck was new. ( minus the tires that came on it from the factory) They are Awesome. They were lasting 50K plus easy. The truck is a 2005 and has 175K miles. It was time to replace them again back in January. Michelin stopped making them in LT235/80R17 for my 3500 Dodge. They still make tires that size just not that same style and tread pattern. After days of research I found that exact tread pattern and style made by Kumho. They call it CRUGEN HT51. So far they have been great. This tread pattern is very quiet and wears very well. In a Michelin they are worth the money. In the Kumho time will tell. Good Luck. Tires Plus is a good comparison resource.
Drummer
Michelin Defender LTX is a great tire. One of the best LT tires Michelin has ever produced, therefore one of the best ever produced by anyone. I know about Michelin tires. Ask me how! RacerxV6
WWU, Michelin Defenders are the best for what you are looking for. now, I do work for Michelin so I am little bias. Also, I like the BFG's. What size 275/55-20's or 275/65-18's.
Chief5130
I just put a set on my wife's Audi and believe it or not, the best deal was from the local dealer. I normally go to SAMS, but they were not doing tires at the time due to Covid.
RacerxV6
Discount Tire is probably the best place to get a set. You can't beat there prices and their service.....
triplec
Im a HUGE Michelin fan...but my new GMC came with some BFGs and they aint bad at all. Hit this channel. Check out Pathfinder, it’s what I put on my 1500. Prob close to 20k on em and no issues. I believe made by Cooper and a fraction of price. Hutch03
Was a Michelin guy for decades. Lately have been impressed with cooper tires at discount tire. Have bought like 4 sets of them. Hutch
RacerxV6
Guys, I wear Michelins honesty because its a perk working for the company. We get an allowance every 2 years. If I was working somewhere else I would most likely be wearing BFG's. I go way back to the 80's buying BFG's before Michelin bought them in 84, I think. they use the same compound that BFG did, Now the new TKO3's are a new Michelin compound and they get great reviews. I do not think this is what WWU is looking for. Out side of Michelin, Cooper, General are next in line for me.
smooth move
cooper discovery's. on my 2nd set. not the very best, but affordable and they last 40k. discount tire. mine are 285x17@$800.
F1sh0n
LTX MS. I wish we could actually have a choice to pick our tires when we buy new. On another rant, why does every ford 4x4 seem to have the FX package by default?
whichwaysup
Thanks all - really helpful. I'll check discount tire - if I can get no-name "coopers" that might be the ticket. My truck has become the surf-and-fishing transport vehicle, so I don't put a ton of mileage on her each year, but we do occassionally take long trips to the Pamlico Sound and outer banks, and noise is pretty important. Really appreciate everyone's opinions - feel free to keep em coming if you have another option. Dang I do hate blowing 1K on tires though. Oh man, I'm glad you said something! I never saw the PM - had a bunch of PMs come in over the weekend, and didn't see yours in the flurry! I was about to say I didn't get it, but I found it buried under all the others! Shot you one back.
whichwaysup
So, question - anyone running a 305/70/r17 on a Ford F150 Supercrew cab? It's an inc wider than what I'm currently running (285/70/R17), and the truck specs are for a dinky 265/70/R17. Assuming they didn't rub on the vehicle, how will I know if they will fit on my rims? bernieNC
If you do a deep dive into the tire specs it should tell you the rim size(s) it will fit.
