schwaggen
Mostly happens when folks put their skiffs bow-in up on the beach- It would appear that they had at least a stern anchor out- however- the beach there has a steep drop-off (which is why most people don't anchor bow-out) and the water is full of toothy critters, which makes swimming in inadvisable (although I've done it). The bottom is loose sand, too, which make anchoring tricky. The above is what happens when a strong front comes though and switches the wind to the west and blows hard overnight- the wind creates a surf zone where your skiff is parked, drives it up on the beach and swamps it. Moral of the story- if you're going to camp on East Cape- anchor a bit offshore, bow out, with at least one, if not more decent size hooks. hurricane
Anybody ever try something like this? I think if I was do to this, I would do it with bow away from shore. Other than that seems like a decent idea, will need a lot of rope.
Ksayles44
My buddy has done that set up a few times camping on the lake up here with no beach with his 26' center console. It works but last time out some one got the lines mixed up and dropped the wrong end and he lost the anchor. Just something to think about. conocean
All good stuff to learn from on this thread! Great diagram, hurricane. Personally I will never beach camp ever again. The pics solidify my reasoning. I've flirted with disaster too many times, even when I was doing everything right. The sea always wins, eventually!! THE OUTLAW
What Paul said ! I will go there n hang all day with friends , play cornhole etc . Aint no anchor going to hold , when those fronts roll in & AINT ENOUGH WHISKEY to sit there all night and watch your sled take that beating . 🇺🇸☠
hurricane
I agree with all. I don't think I would sleep well, and then I would be too tired to fish. And if I'm too tired to fish, what I'm I doing there. I think I would rather sleep on the boat.
rubble
Count this Neophyte in with the no beach camping folks. I'm in a chickee or somewhere that I can dock the boat.
fsusteve
Done it a bunch of times in ENP, only had issues two times, same key though, we call it Jinx Key now and never use it for anything, lol.
Wanaflatsfish
Fished ENP this past weekend on a on foot negative low....we saw at least 8 boats all beached due to the tides.....had they had a bad night...they'd all be sunk and under sand.... I don't camp either on beach or tikis (call it my Marine Corps Post PSD Camping (LOL))....but, I admire those who do.....after years hump'n my gear in the Corps...I ain't carrying it to have fun BTW, there is a video that a forum member made years ago on one of the TV shows that show how to keep your boat a floating....similar to the pic that was posted herein. Be safe all.... dc
jason p
Spoke with rangers Saturday night, it happened last Friday night on the Cape. CG pulled the people off Saturday and SeaTow salvaged the boats.
