rubble Posted December 14, 2017 Report Posted December 14, 2017 Will anyone be camping in the park over the Holidays? I may head out with my Bro-in-law. Likely after Christmas day.
conocean Posted December 14, 2017 Report Posted December 14, 2017 I plan to be in Choko for 3 days next week then 8 days after Christmas so I'll be camping for a night or two but not sure exactly which nights; all depends on weather.
Brent B Posted December 14, 2017 Report Posted December 14, 2017 I will be camping tomorrow and friday night this weekend. probably pavilion key or new turkey. around x mas i will be over there as much as possible. I will keep you posted.
rubble Posted December 15, 2017 Author Report Posted December 15, 2017 Important questions from a freshwater guy... 1. If the tide chart says high at 1pm, when is the best current to fish it? On the incoming, out going or both? 2. Is there any use fishing right at the tidal change? Thinking there will be less movement for a stretch of time before and after 1pm. ? 3. Is it better to target the high or low tide times?

rubble Posted December 16, 2017 Author Report Posted December 16, 2017 We may end up just staying in Choko as well. Too many chickees down which may create some bottlenecks.
Wanaflatsfish Posted December 16, 2017 Report Posted December 16, 2017 I would be careful where you stay...lots of flooding in the hotels... Check with Conocean....he can hook you up with some contacts at Choko Island Park..the rental trailers survived from what I was told. dc
heweymagoos Posted December 16, 2017 Report Posted December 16, 2017 Was there a month ago with my parents class c rig. The hotel was still closed, but trailers were for rent. Honestly the trailer rental is the way to go, especially if it comes with a deeded dock which is at the other end of the park. The three pools/hot tubs are pristine and well worth the money.
rubble Posted December 16, 2017 Author Report Posted December 16, 2017 That is actually where we are targeting. My Bro-in-law has a connection there so hopefully that is where we end up. Paul, do you like that Kentucky Brown Water ("Brown" for short)?
rubble Posted December 17, 2017 Author Report Posted December 17, 2017 So we are at CIP Fri and Sat. Hit me up if anyone is around. Will be running in a 2000v pathy called the Big Sassy and will be along side an old battle sled; 18MA. Hope the weather is cooperates. And the fish!
Shindig Posted December 18, 2017 Report Posted December 18, 2017 Will be over on the 27 -28th will probably be staying at the Rod & Gun Club,
conocean Posted December 18, 2017 Report Posted December 18, 2017 I'm at my place in cip tomorrow, Wednesday & Thursday with my son but not this weekend. Yes, I love the brown!!

Yes, I love the brown!! That's a bummer. I'll miss you by hours. Think we will roll in to Naples Thurs evening then head straight to CIP Fri morning sometime. Has the debris in the water cleared up any? Fish still hungry? I still don't know the water that well but going to try and figure it out. We'll be spending most of our time down south on the outside. Don't think we'll take a chance on issues inside.
conocean Posted December 19, 2017 Report Posted December 19, 2017 Plenty of fish around, rubble. Find the good water and you'll find the fish. My Choko neighbors have been crushing the trout & reds within a few miles of cip the past two weeks. There are still many trees & blow-downs to hit in the back & out front. Most of them won't ruin a lower unit but be careful. I'll be standing at the helm while running for at least a few more months. Running at mid tide makes you a little vulnerable to hit something. Clean Rec90 is available at Parkway Marina for $4/gallon. Call their office when you pull up to the fuel dock & the manager will come meet you. It's way more convenient than pulling the boat to/from Glades City. I've been fueling up there most of the year and will continue to do so for the ease of use.
rubble Posted December 19, 2017 Author Report Posted December 19, 2017 Restaurants up and running in Choko/EC? I'm sure we'll take snacks for Breakfast and Lunch but we'll want to head to town to eat in th evenings.
conocean Posted December 19, 2017 Report Posted December 19, 2017 As of a few weeks ago Havana Café on Choko was open for breakfast & lunch only. Rod & Gun, Island Café and Camelia Grill were all open for dinner in EC.

I know some of the "guides" are filling at the local Marathon, but, I"m still not feeling confident that their tanks are 100% clean.....but, again, that's what a fuel filter is for dc
conocean Posted December 22, 2017 Report Posted December 22, 2017 Yes, Parkway has an above ground tank. Fishing was good the past 3 days. Plenty being caught just a few miles from cip. Bust out your Top Spot map and go get em, rubble!

rubble Posted December 22, 2017 Author Report Posted December 22, 2017 Had a few trout and a red. Saw some fish busting top and ran to them. Ended up hookes up for over an hour with one bluefish after the orher. Lots of fun. Talked to some guys next to us. They went south about 30 miles and caught about everything. More teout than they could count, reds, snook... another boat hammered cobia about 40 miles offshore. Fishing is good here.
Wanaflatsfish Posted December 23, 2017 Report Posted December 23, 2017 Hey, I know that spot Catch'm up Rubble....enjoy DC
