Happy Lappy
Slow going but Goof Off Pro Strength seems to do the trick. I found it's best if you go slow with the soaked rag versus lots of quick back and forth pressure. that one section took me about 20-30 minutes. Limitless
It may depend on age and how the boat was stored. I tried Goo-gone on mine but had much better luck with a heat gun and scrapper. If you use the heat gun be cautious and dont get the surface too hot - it can harm the gel coat. Also, I didnt get mine that clean but I was installing seadek under the gunnels. Happy Lappy
It's a 1992. I tried the heat gun but it didn't do any good.
polliwog
What will you do when you remove the glue? Is the surface good enough to leave free of a covering?
MuddyBottomBluz
I have said it before and I will say it again, PAINT REMOVER. It will not affect the gel coat, put it on with a chip brush and wipe away in minutes. EASY PEASY! I know a lot of people think it will cause damage to the surface, it does not, just don't leave it on for an extended period of time. You will see the glue peeling up and you just wipe away. Use protective gloves.
fishmanjj
I have a friend with a 1995 model like yours, he pulled out all the carpet.....cleaned glue off the best he could using acetone and a scotch brite pad...his goal was to get it smooth because he then put SeaDek in and it looks great. knotthereelworld
Thanks for the various ideas. I'm about to replace the carpeting on my 03 RF18. Lot's of glue stuck to the interior beneath the carpet. I purchased a 3M adhesive eraser wheel from Auto Zone. Eager to try it out
gnarlydog
I'll be taking on this same project in the next few weeks. Castaway Customs has a good deal for the 39"x77" Seadek ($105). Below is the link for anyone interested. With shipping and taxes, the total was $123. https://www.castawaycustoms.com/product/brushed-sheet-material/

MuddyBottomBluz
I just used the Home Depot brand, I'm sure any kind will work. Don't need to paste it on, just get the glue wet enough to avoid drips.

Big Dave
So, that's how you get it OFF--what do you use to secure the new carpet to the under gunnels (or to secure loose carpet corners)?
