Console is painted & set in place. I've started installing some of the hardware and rigging, but I'm doing an hour or two at a time at night so I'll wait until I've got a couple things done before I post those pics.

Thanks for all the kind words. While I'm trying my best to do everything "right" I'm really itching to get this thing done before the summer is over! ha ha I'm also coming back up on my annual summer time fishing tournaments, mixed with kids being out of school for summer break soon... there's just not enough hours in a day. We'll get there, eventually!

A couple updates...

I've been working on some of the hardware and installing hatch latches and hinges. I also installed the door for the front of the console. I borrowed the idea from my pathfinder and installed the removable bottom hinges so the door can slide off when you need to work inside the console.

I also painted my rod holders to match... and I screwed the pooch on this one. I sanded them down, wiped, primed and then 3 coats of AlexSeal black. They looked amazing, nice gloss, great coverage and no runs. I was super happy with them. The next morning I go out and see that they have all "bubbled up" and look terrible.

There are two reasons this happens... one is that you didn't wait long enough between coats. The tech sheet for the paint says 30 min between coats, so I know that was not the issue as I waited 45-60 min between all 3 coats. The second reason is that you applied the paint too thick and the gas-off can't escape and causes bubbles. I'm certain that was my issue. The real bummer is the only way to fix them is to sand them all down and start over. Really disheartening when you spend valuable hours doing something and then have to spend 2x the time to try to fix it. Ughhh...

That's how it goes sometimes and lesson learned (which I already knew, but didn't follow)... thin coats, especially the first one and add more coats if necessary.

I've been working whenever I can, mostly at night 10pm-midnight. I'm over it... but trying to get this thing done before I hit retirement. Ughhh...

I did get the rod holders sanded back down to bare aluminum and started over. This time, very light coats and I let them sit for 2+ hours between coats. Zero issues, although the paint did look slightly better the first time around.

I've also got the hinges & latches installed on 2/3 of the boat and a handful of other things. Wet sanded some runs on the console and started laying out my eletrical. Many hours spent with no pictures to show for it. Another week... another 10 hours with an hour worth of progress to show for it. ha ha

Josh, will you ask your HR director at work if I can donate you a week of my vacation time to you and don’t tell your wife you are taking time off so you can finish this project?  The suspense on seeing this thing finished is absolutely killing me!  You are doing an amazing job.

That's too funny & I appreciate your willingness to give to the project! You know the sad part is that I actually have plenty of vacation time... it's just that I have too much work to do at work and also that I need a way to work on the boat at home without my wife/kids being around. The best part of having the boat at my dads shop for a few months in the beginning was that I could go over there and work on it without anyone bothering me. But I couldn't work on it late at night like I do at home now. I need to send my wife/kids on a 2 week vacation and I would have it done!

We need to pass the offering plate around and raise money to get them out of town and out of your hair so we can get this rig finished!!!!!  You can tell them you won a raffle for a week long vacation, but it has to be used the during the 1st week of summer break and you have too much going at work to go with them.

Haven't had much time to work on the boat... I was out of town the last two weekends and a lot going on with the kids. Looks like I may get some time this weekend, but then out of town again next weekend.

I started running some electrical and also installed my SeaStar tilt helm. I purchased this 1.7 Classic Tilt Helm used from THT and it supposedly worked great when I bought it. It has sat in my garage for a year+ and as soon as I filled with fluid it started leaking out of the main seal on the bottom. So looks like i'll be rebuilding this helm in my spare time.

Unfortunately just slow going right now until I can get some time, hopefully I can get the new rubrail installed this week in the evenings. Also building my custom battery box for my lithium batteries a little at a time.

Amen, Dino !

We get old so dang fast, but the kids grow up faster.
Don’t be too hard on yourself tho.. It’s easier to keep sons in the boat as they hit the teens. Then the challenge becomes beers & fears. But, that’s another Thread I should start.

Josh seems to have the balance in hand, even though we wait to see how spectacular his RF turns out.

You're all correct. The first year with my oldest child I really tried to fight it... I was used to fishing 3-4 days a week, traveling all over fishing redfish tournaments. The year she was born i fished 22 tournaments. My wife definitely wanted to kill me. Slowly, like an old rented mule, my wife beat me into submission. I'm glad she did as I adore both of my girls and love spending these early years with them. We do a lot, including about 8-10 camping trips per year throughout the state. They are cherished memories for sure. I know I'll turn around and they will be teenagers and avoiding me, so I'm soaking it all in while I can.

I do still get up before the sun each morning we go camping and find the nearest body of water. I get an hour or two sometimes before they wake up. This trip I caught snook, gar, and bass... including this stud 6.5 lber from a creek about 10' wide. She came out from under a laid down palm tree and hammered it. Good times. My daughter was equally excited of her catch.

PS. I got my new seal kit in, rebuilding a helm tonight!

This is beautiful work ! Just know that it will be your bug and scratch collector from coolers and rod butts.
Anywhere you set it down, the nonskid will leave a skid mark.

Maybe add a cushion or keep towels around..

Carry On !!

MM

I have a new cooler for in front of the console. I'll be adding a cushion to the cooler as well as another one to the front side of the hatch. If it were only ever me using it I would just use my small cooler bag inside the front hatch and not have a seat/cushion on either (more floor space). But the cooler is necessary during those family trips, sandbar, scalloping, etc. so might as well have a seat on it too.
