whichwaysup
Earned a hundred bucks this a.m. before work. Had a ball on topwater, but we were shamed by an older gentleman who landed 13, at least 3 of which were between 8-10 lbs.

Popular Post whichwaysup
Finally had a chance to fish with my son . . . he on his new-to-him boat and me on mine. It was a pretty amazing experience to watch he and his buddy launch the boat next to me in the double ramp at 0-dark-30, load up boats, and head out simultaneously. Apparently all those years of him playing first mate for me stuck with him. We fished most spots together, but his range with a 25hp was a little more constrained than mine, so I left him at a spot I wanted to fish and went off to explore a spot I was doubful about. He managed a 21 inch flounder and was over the moon, until he found out that we were culling slot redfish and borrowing his limit. When I mentioned that "his" and "his buddies" reds were 26 and 26.999 inches he was a little annoyed. Feeling badly that all he had managed in the 2.5 hrs I had left him was the flounder, I headed up to fish with them again and see if I could help. I pulled in behind them and worked the bank after they did. When I managed to pull off another topwater red in a spot they had just worked, I think they said something unkind about me. I tried to explain that 40+ years of fishing experience was an unfair advantage. It may have come across a little smuggly, though, so I'm not sure that helped the situation . . . . All in all a great day, and it was fun to debrief the day with my son and talk through what they would do differently next time. Like so many things, lately, I know it wont be long before I will be watching him outfish me with that same strange feeling you get as a dad, happy to see his star rise, but knowing too that yours is setting.
